Most of your time is spent watching your money roll in from lucrative trade routes and periodically purchasing some new ships or buying up some businesses. It’s not really about pivotal decisions but a series of gentle tweaks. However, this illustrates perhaps the biggest problem with Port Royal 4. This is a huge relief, as though setting up my routes required a bit of fiddling, they didn’t require any more micromanagement to get keep them ferrying goods for a solid profit. Not only can you set up trade routes for your convoys of schooners and brigandines to follow and tell them exactly what to buy and sell along the way, you can even let them use their own best judgement on what amounts to buy and sell. Thankfully, there is a hefty bit of automation available to make trading more manageable. Learning the ropes of Port Royal 4 is made a lot easier by the addition of some tutorials but as I scanned my eyes over the estimated run time of each of these tutorials and found they cumulatively clocked in at upwards of an hour, I was a little intimidated. But is this ambitious marriage of finance and swashbuckling really fun? Well, that’s a part of it, but there was also residential zoning to be considered balance sheets to be done and tax forms to be filled! Yarr! The current vessel hurls a grenade in a 2 field range. Listed below are the Vessel Tactics and Captains Tactics in Port Royale 4. Captains Tactics can be used by your captain during naval battles but what is available will depend on the captains's level. A maximum of 2 of each tactic can be collected. Captains tactic can be used independently from the type of vessel and the character is able to otain additional captains tactics by completing tasks. Vessel tactics have a cooldown which it is essential that you take into consideration when initiating combat. If several vessels in your convoy have the same tactic you will be able to use the tactic more often. The tactics you have available to you during confrontations are determined by the type of vessel that makes up your convoy and the captain. Basically when it comes to combat in Port Royale 4, bigger is better. Regardless of how skillful you think you are the most important thing you need to remember is not to initiate combat if you are outgunned as the liklihood is you will lose badly. It is therefore recommended that before you jump into battle you play the combat tutorial in order to understand the mechanics of how it works in the game as it is more complicated than what it appears. Unlike previous games in the series Port Royale 4 uses a turn-based system for naval battles.
